Abstract

The research is focused on the comparative analysis of biological and foster parents of a mentally disabled child, which is performed with the use of the following parameters: personal characteristics, relationships within a family and parents’ interaction with social environment. Foster parents appeared to be more prepared to take risks, can better control life events, are focused on active leisure, and are more intellectually and morally developed. They are supported by a larger social network. If compared with foster parents, biological parents are better aware of the way how to take care their own child, they have better understanding of his desires and emotional state.
