Meaning-Generating Creativity: The Influence of Artlogomethods on Students’ Self-Esteem

Abstract

Aim. Investigation of the influence of meaning-generating creativity, art-based and logo-based methods on students' self-esteem of personality when conducting a developmental program.

Procedure and methods. The phenomenon of meaning-generating creativity, art-based and logobased methods is considered. An analysis of scientific works and empirical material on research was carried out. understanding the phenomenon of self-esteem. Ascertaining and formative experiments were carried out, the dynamics of self-esteem in young people was studied. An empirical study was conducted on a sample of Moscow university students. To conduct the study, the following methods were used: “Self-Attitude Questionnaire” (MIS) (V. V. Stolin, S. R. Panteleev); “Personality Differential Methodology” (NIPNI 1983), “M. Rosenberg SelfEsteem Scale” (RSES) (adapted by A. A. Zolotareva); “Artlogotherapeutic and diagnostic exercise “Precious”. (T. A. Popova), primary descriptive statistics were also used; checking the normality of data distribution (Kolmogorov-Smirnov test); Statistical comparison of two independent samples (nonparametric Mann-Whitney U test); statistical comparison of two connected samples (non-parametric Wilcoxon T-test). The main content of the study contains an analysis of the influence of art and therapy group work on the self-esteem and self-attitude of respondents; the patterns of group interaction are considered.

Results. This study is an attempt to understand the effectiveness of using art-based and logobased therapy methods to correct individual self-esteem within the framework of a short-term group program. The use of art-based and logo-based therapy methods to correct self-esteem could potentially represent a more effective and interesting approach for clients, which will contribute to rapid and long-term correction of self-esteem in clients. Based on the results of the study, a conclusion was made about the positive nature of the dynamics of self-esteem, self-leadership, and positive attitude towards themselves of the participants in the short-term program.

Theoretical and /or practical significance. The work contributes to the addition of the theoretical definition of art-based and logo-based therapy, art-based and logo-based therapy methods, the obtained empirical results of the research can be applied in the working practice of specialists in helping professions, in particular: psychologists-consultants, teachers, psychotherapists, psychiatrists, social workers, etc. Also, the practical significance of this work lies in the possibility of other specialists using the developed set of art and therapy exercises in a group program for working with self-esteem.
