<trans-abstract xml:lang="en">
<title>Aim</title><p>Aim. To adapt and validate the Russian-language version of the McGill Friendship Questionnaire – Friend’s Functions (MFQ-FF) for studying friendship as a salutogenic factor embedded in the social environment.</p>
<title>Methodology</title><p>Methodology. The study involved 395 participants (259 women, 136 men) aged 18 to 55 years. Instruments included the Russian version of the MFQ-FF, the “Social Support Strategies” questionnaire (Nesterova, 2011), and the Test of Existential Motivations in Interpersonal Relationships (TEMIR; V. B. Shumskiy, E. M. Ukоlova, E. N. Osin, 2016). Both exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were conducted. Reliability was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha and test–retest coefficients, and gender differences were examined using Student’s t-test.</p>
<title>Result</title><p>Result. A six-factor structure of the MFQ-FF was confirmed, accounting for 72.4% of the total variance. All subscales demonstrated high internal consistency (α = 0.874–0.933) and test–retest reliability (r = 0.79–0.91). Convergent validity was supported by strong correlations with existential fulfillment in interpersonal relationships (r = 0.62–0.76, p &lt; 0.001), while divergent validity was evidenced by negligible associations with hierarchical relationship styles (r = 0.02–0.06, p &gt; 0.05). Women rated all friendship functions significantly higher than men, particularly “self-validation” and “intimacy.”</p>
<title>Research implications</title><p>Research implications. The Russian version of the MFQFF confirms the applicability of the functional model of friendship within Russian psychological science and advances the conceptualization of friendship as a salutogenic factor that promotes psychological well-being and existential functioning in adulthood. The instrument can be effectively employed in both research and applied settings to assess the resource potential of friendships and to inform the development of psychosocial support programs.</p>
</trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>дружба</kwd><kwd>функции дружбы</kwd><kwd>салютогенез</kwd><kwd>MFQ-FF</kwd><kwd>психометрическая валидизация</kwd><kwd>социальная среда</kwd><kwd>социальная поддержка</kwd><kwd>взрослые</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>friendship</kwd><kwd>friendship functions</kwd><kwd>salutogenesis</kwd><kwd>MFQ-FF</kwd><kwd>psychometric validation</kwd><kwd>social environment</kwd><kwd>social support</kwd><kwd>adults</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Нартова-Бочавер С.
